The month of July ended with one stock index closing on the red amid an active trading session on Monday. The Kina Securities main index KSi was down 53.79 points or 1.07% to 4,989.65 points while the Kina Securities Home Index KSHi was maintained at 11,156.28 points.
Oil Search Ltd (OSH) slipped by 50toea to end lower at K17.00 at the close.
Meanwhile, Bank South Pacific Ltd (BSP) and Newcrest Mining Ltd (NCM) were both evened out at K9.60 and K50.00 flat respectively.
A volume of 171,041 shares were transacted at a monetary value of K1,658,540.20.
U.S markets ended mixed with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both finishing lower on the back of falls in technology shares while the Dow Jones finished with a record weekly gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 33.76 points or 0.15% to close at 21,830 points. Japanese shares was little changed as gains in steelmakers and other companies with upbeat earnings were offset by wariness about the yen’s rise. The Nikkei share average was down 34.66 points or 0.17% to 19,925.18 points. The Australian local market closed lower on the back of mixed results as all sectors performed negatively as the S&P/ASX 200 benchmark index fell 82.20 points or 1.42% to 5,702.80 points.
