Monday’s session began on a quiet note as both stock indices were unchanged. The Kina Securities main index KSi was flat at 5,270.25 points and similarly the Kin Securities Home Index KSHi was maintained at 10,987.45 points.
Bank South Pacific Ltd (BSP) closed unchanged at K9.45. Mining and energy stocks Oil Search Ltd (OSH) and Newcrest Mining Ltd (NCM) both evened out at K17.66 and K54.00 flat respectively.
The day’s trading transacted a thin volume of 1,717 shares worth K32, 063.08.
In overseas news, U.S stocks rose in overnight trading as the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 30.71 points or 0.13% to 22,871.72 points. Japanese Nikkei share average rose to a fresh 21-year high as the dollar stayed steady against the yen with the Nikkei climbing up 0.6% to 21,284.40 points. The Australian stock market was slightly higher despite weak cues overnight and lowers crude oil prices. There were slight gains by mining stocks and banks which helped offset weakness in energy stocks. S&P/ASX 200 benchmark index rose 10.90 points or 0.19% to 5,805.40 points.
